The natural resources, ecosystems and the planets regenerating capacities have been severely degraded; as a result, it has compromised the ability of the planet to sustain life. Evidence now draws much stronger conclusions, not just on the detectability of human influence, but on its contribution to environmental degradation.
Water, land and air are getting increasingly polluted, water tables are falling, soil erosion is leading to desertification, global warming is well underway, and species are dying out 1000 times faster than their natural rate of extinction.
As a people, we have a distinctly unique stake in the fight against the obliteration of our environment. Our decisions and actions as a people, a country and the world at large over the next few years will shape the world we live in for the rest of our lives, not to mention that of our children. It is a monumental challenge, but one that we cannot afford to shy away from. We should stand up to politicians and polluters and taking our future into our own hands because we have the tools to take action and stop this crisis.
