ICESPS stands for International Center for Environmental,
Social and Policy Studies which is a non governmental
organization whose main goal is to provide a forum via which
environmental protection and conflict resolution as well as
policy analysis can be achieved. It was established to promote,
encourage, safeguard, propagate, protect, restore the environment
from degradation and control, delimit and enhance human dignity
for the achievement of industrial, economic, technological
and social development. ICESPS is managed and run by two kinds
of committees namely; Executive Committee which runs the day
to day operations of the center and a Governing Council which
is the overall governing body of the center. ICESPS is divided
into 2 departments namely:

Governance and Policy Issues
Our Mission
ICESPS ultimate aim is to make people the center and solution
to their own problems. Solutions are to be an effort of, by
and for the people. Hence, the people have to identify their
own problems, prioritise them and come up with respective
solutions for the qualified and experienced executive management
personnel. In its various thematic subjects, each is headed
by an expert assisted by a number of associate consultants.
Participation
Approach: ICESPS adopts s rural and urban appraisal participation strategy
where applicable and as much as possible utilize and enhance community
and people participation in all activities. This falls under:
- Awareness
of Environmental Management
This involves participating approach in research, extension, and training.
Putting people first and recognizing their own community problems,
priorities, solutions and capabilities in terms of human resources
and other resources is the route to sustainable environmental management
and development.
- Inter-organization
collaborations:
ICESPS promotes close interlinks and collaborations with other agencies
with common interest in the exchanges of ideas and experiences, and
for the enhancement of quality stable society.
- Conflicts
Identification
ICESPS believes that conflicts of any nature and magnitude are the
root cause of instability in most societies and therefore a contributor
to environmental instability in most societies and therefore a contributor
to environmental instability and degradation. Therefore, the proper
and early identification and categorization of conflicts in various
societies will helping achieving a peaceful and pacific co-existence
among communities and an important determinant factor in social and
economic development.
- Research:
The center recognizes the central place and role played by research
in information creation, identification of problems and solutions,
training and dissemination. To this end, the center will highly articulate
research into any of the fields of its concern. More so, it will link
up with other institutions for integration of information and dissemination.
- Policy
Studies
Various policies affecting every human activity have been promulgated.
ICESPS feels that most of such policies have not been fully studied
e.g. policies related to structural adjustment programmes. The center
will therefore study these policies among others and come up with
practical ways and means of implementing and evaluating them.
